There are certain aspects of appraisals that needs to be in place to facilitate effective appraisals. Here are some of the most important aspects.
Planning -
The need to plan for appraisals is one of the most important parts. So often appraisals become an afterthought and they contribute very little to actually improving efficiency in the company. When you set a goal, you need to set dates for evaluating the progress of those goals - and fix it in stone. Managers and employees need to have these dates and be aware of when their performance will be evaluated.
Focus On Goals And Specific Outcomes -
The employer and employee relationship is a 2 way street and the employer needs to understand the employee's goals and aspirations as much as the employee has to understand the employer's goals and aspiration. When the focus is on specific goals, it become much easier to measure and improve.
Attitudes -
When it comes to dealing with employees, its all about attitude. Having the wrong attitude amongst your staff can quickly break down staff morale and send productivity spiraling down. Staff reviews is a great time to address issues that affect attitude. Its important to really listen to complaints and major issues as a little bit of poison can quickly corrupt the whole vibe at work.
